Descendents and ‘pure’ Beems (Puritans)

Descendents and Puritans

The Beems species, save for Crimson and Carmine, are generally extremely peaceful and almost always unarmed. They will avoid conflict at any opportunity, preferring flight over fight.

Well, behold the Descendent.

The Descendent is one of the genetic variants that emerged after Crimson’s DNA was inserted into the Beems genepool.

Differences Between a Descendent and a pure Beems (Puritan).

Physical:

Size: Descendents are usually bigger, some growing past a kilometre in length, and they always sport three (or more) koveran chambers, as opposed to the Puritan’s one.

Defences: Most have plating that can take kinetic and energy damage. Some have shields (either electrostatic or koveran) and others build fighter craft that they use to keep unfriendlies at bay. Puritans generally have none of this, and will die to a direct round from any sort of heavy-calibre weapon.

Note: plating and fighter craft depend greatly on the ship’s Tier Zero production capabilities (see: Tier Zero page).

When a Descendent is wounded, it can shut off or reroute arterial flow, letting its koveran-laced blood continue nourishing most of the starship. Puritans, on the other skid, will unfortunately bleed to death if hit in a vital area. Basically, if you’re a Puritan, TRY NOT TO GET SHOT!

Offences: Every Descendent also comes pre-loaded with an AHC (Adaptive Hypervelocity Cannon) which it learns to, at a very young age, use with deadly proficiency. Puritans are weaponless.

To make matters worse, other Descendents (and Puritans, as a matter of fact) have learned to manipulate their gravimetric lens and use it in an offensive manner. What better way to destroy a person, place or thing, than by placing a 5000g field of gravity right next to it?

Other Descendents have harnessed their Koveran Chamber for more than just shielding. The offensive capabilities of koverans are practically limitless, and some of their forms require a separate page to explain (See: Black Nova).

Mentality: Descendents are generally more impulsive and violent. They will not exile themselves after committing a heinous crime. In fact, they might relish it. While Puritans (the ‘non-tainted’ Beems) fly in passive pods, Descendents will form hunting parties and fleets, and enjoy involving themselves in and fighting for the tiny little bipedal creatures that inhabit them.
