Gravimetric Lens

Overview

The gravimetric lens is the visible focal point of a distortion field a lens-equipped starship would emit. It needs at least three terminals to be wielded properly, and is one of the most multi-purpose systems a starship could have.

Uses

1. Navigation: A starship can use a gravimetric lens to distort the space ahead of itself, continuously accelerating at a very small energy cost.

2. Inertial stabilization: At high accelerations, a starship can counter the effects of gee-load by altering the shape of its lens. This comes at a cost, however, and reduces the starship’s maximum available acceleration. Most starships will try to find a balance between maximum acceleration and comfort for both themselves and any crew on board.

3. Combat: Starships (RT’s and Descendents especially) can extend or place gravimetric lenses near other starships, ripping them apart. Some starships can even perform this feat to eliminate people inside of them. (see:Kaira’s Strike).
